I don't think so either, though no traffic will occur over the connection.

I've noticed this problem often occurs while trying to access a server who
has defined http://www.server.tld but not http://server.tld or
http://anyhting.server.tld though this is obviously not the case with yours.
Trying it out here, Netscape and LWP both wait really long, while MSIE
seems to follow it's timeout. ping and tracert both timeout too.

:-) maybe you should have snipped that out
I know that sigs aren't totally safe yet but maybe providing an option to
use them a la $ua->alaram(1) would work for those of us that need it ?
Btw, I don't get the same IP as you do for that server, I get 192.41.53.8.
