Hello libwww'ers,
I ran into this problem
robot/ua... Can't locate auto/URI/URL/http/host_port.al
and after many hours of fruitless debugging I subscribed to this list. The
welcome message pointed to the list archive, and I quickly found the
solution. To recap, you have to install URI-1.00, regardless of whether or
not you have URI-URL (4.16 in my case).
I'm now up and running, but the fix seems like voodoo magic to me. At a
minimum, the documentation (the README) should clearly state this problem.
The next best thing to do would be to have Makefile.PL check that things are
all right. And the very best thing would be to make libwww operate cleanly
on the base of either URI and or URI-URL. But, like I say, since I don't
even know, beyond a hazy notion, what these two modules do (and don't do), I
don't know whether such a thing is possible.
I recall reading somewhere that the libwww package is being recoded, moving
parts into C for performance. Is this so? If it is coming soon, then I
suppose the above issue becomes moot. Still, it would be nice to save the
next person some anguish.
Later,
DAvid
