more on site connection abruptly ending...

Folks:
I recently posted a question about a site connection that abruptly froze in
mid-transmission. Since then, I have been able to further characterize the
behavior. I got the connection to work from my sgi, irix5.3 system via a
combination of upgrading from libwww-perl 5.06 to 5.08, and my combining my url
and content of the request into a GET. OK, strange, but a do-able solution.
However, I have a Linux system which is where I want to ultimately run my
agent. It turns out that no matter what I do with my agent on this system, I
still get the problem. In fact, my Netscape Navigator 3.0 also hangs when
connecting to this site - but only when on my Linux system. And, I have tried
connecting form a bsd system and it connects just fine.
So, does this sound like less and less of a libwww problem and more like
something peculiar about my Linux o/s (perhaps the pppd), or maybe something
strange about the site's server and Linux? Any tips as to where to head from
here greatly appreciated.
