I don't want the libwww-perl Makefile.PL to ask about the default
METRICS path since very few libwww-perl users care about a working
Font::AFM module.  If you (or anybody else) can contribute code that
set up the correct path automatically then I would be happy to
incorporate it.  We must also have in mind that the intalled module
can be shared by different environments which keep the AFM files at
different locations.
