Hi all,
As Tim's recent message indicates, I've agreed to take on the maintenance
of CGI::Base, CGI::Request and CGI::MiniSvr. The CGI::* modules and my
original CGI.pm were beginning to diverge in awkward ways, and when Tim
offered me the opportunity, I thought this would be the best way to make
the two interoperable again. I'm hoping to continue to offer CGI.pm as a
lightweight entry to world of CGI scripting a la Steve Brenner's
cgi-lib.pl, but recommend CGI::* as the "professional" solution.
My main intent for the immediate future is to write a tutorial on the
modules in order to encourage their widespread understanding and adoption,
as well as to apply bug fixes. I won't make any interface changes without
discussing it with the group here.
I think it would be of great benefit to the community to create a standard
distribution of web-related modules including CGI::*, URI::*, and Greg's
HTML::* module (and others?). This distribution could then be mirrored at
my site and Nexor, as well as others. What do people think of this idea?
In any case, the CGI::* modules, now at version 2.4, are living at the
address Tim just distributed:
