Exactly. There are formats for which byte ranges make sense, and ones
for which they don't. As Chuck brought up, if I'm a PDF app I'm very
happy I can get the TOC from the end of the file and then single pages
instead of the 2000 page encyclopedia at once. And if I'm a proxy I'm
happy because I can understand that the chunks I have are parts from
the same entity which I now can put together from the pieces I have
(and respond to other range requests by serving them, at least
partially, from the cache).
